BettingExpert exits Russian market following site block

News on 25 Nov 2016

Russian regulatory interference in the form of a mid-2016 site block imposed by Russian internet regulator Roskomnadzor has prompted social sports betting network BettingExpert to fold its tents and depart come the end of November, according to a Twitter advisory Thursday.

The tweet did not specify in detail the company’s reasons for departure, saying only that the market is currently ‘uninteresting’:

“BettingExpert is leaving the Russian market. The tournament in November is the last one. You hold on here! Wish you all the best and good mood,” the tweet advised.

In recent weeks the regulator has increased the tempo of its blacklisting and ISP blocking against unlicensed operators in the Russian market; it is believed that there are now blocks on over 3,500 websites….and counting.
