Bwin launches Russian online sports betting site

News on 21 Nov 2017

The Russian sports betting subsidiary of Bwin, a joint venture between Bwin parent group GVC Holdings and locally owned firms Digital Betting and Rambler&Co (see previous  reports) has announced that its Bwin.ru website is now operational, and that real-money betting will soon be available.

The business is running behind schedule at present, having originally planned to launch in September.

Alexander Mamut, the Russian owner of Digital Betting and Rambler&Co, has reportedly committed to investing $11.2 million in the project over the next three years.

Once fully operational, Bwin.ru will be the first international bookmaker to legally go live in the Russian market, local reports claim.

There are currently 12 or more licensed bookmakers in the market, apparently undeterred by recent political announcements that betting taxes are about to double, and could be hiked even higher in the future.
