Chinese online gambling operators jailed

The Shanghai District People’s Court was active last week, sentencing 25 defendants accused of being involved at various levels in operating an online gambling enterprise.

Local media reports claimed that the accuseds were involved with an unidentified but internationally known top football gambling website based offshore, with prosecutors revealing that the busts were made in February this year following an investigation that lasted a year-and-a-half and uncovered illegal revenues of RMB 400 million (around $64.2 million).

The convicted defendants were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 5 years, along with fines of $1,600 to $16,000.
