Curacao regulator responds to Dutch MP’s criticism

Last week’s criticism of the Curacao Gaming Control Board by Dutch MP Ronald Van Raak has evoked a response from the regulator, which claims that it is successful in exercising its tasks of monitoring the online casino industry.

“The GCB is a highly professional organization with extensive specific knowledge and experience with regard to the complex monitoring of the gambling industry,” the regulator said in a statement issued to the local Curacao Chronicle Friday.

The island’s telecommunication company UTS has also responded to Van Raak’s concerns that it is about to pump more money into the financially troubled datacentre CTEX, issuing a statement which said that it adheres to all laws and regulations applicable in the jurisdictions where it operates and has incorporated the Curaçao Code of Corporate Governance in its statutes and in its operations.

However, the company stopped short of addressing Van Raak’s questions regarding its CTEX intentions.

Our readers will recall that Van Raak addressed his questions to Ronald Plasterk, the Dutch Minister of Kingdom Relations, commenting that he believes Curacao supervision in the online gambling sector is failing, and asking for clarification on the UTC-CTEX relationship, which he surmised could extend its involvement with online casinos and SMS lotteries.

Van Raak has also asked for information on who is responsible for auditing the UTS financial reports.
