Online sports betting operator called out on licensing

Online sports betting operator Betowen.com has been called out by the Smart Gaming Group on its licensing claims.

In a statement issued Friday, Smart Gaming advised interested parties:

“It has been brought to our attention that the website, www.Betowen.com that claims to be fully regulated and licensed in the United Kingdom in accordance with the UK Gambling Commission under license number 000-002715-R-103240-006 and under a Class 4 License in Malta (MGA/CL1/574/2009) is claiming to be owned and operated by Smart Gaming Group.

*We would like to state that Smart Gaming Group is categorically NOT associated in any way to Betowen.com or any of its associated websites, affiliates or partners.

“Any visitors to that site should be aware that the information provided by Betowen in the “About Us” section on their website is false.

“Furthermore, Smart Gaming Group has already notified the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority, and both licencing authorities have confirmed that this is not a licenced product, and therefore potential customers should be aware of this.”

When we went to press Friday, the website was still carrying the following information on its “About Us” page:

“The Betowen Group is a company registered in England and Wales with a company number of: #05849826.

“Betowen is fully regulated and licensed in the United Kingdom in accordance with the UK Gambling Commission under licence number 000-002715-R-103240-006. Smartlivecasino.com/casino is operated by Smart Gaming Group Malta Ltd and powered by Net Entertainment, which has a Class 4 License in Malta (MGA/CL1/574/2009).

“Our registered office is located at 233 High Holborn, 4th Floor,London WC1V 7DN.”

Requests for comment went unanswered.
