Finnish online gambling suspensions on the rise

News on 9 Jun 2011

The Finnish online gambling website Pelimaailma’s players who voluntarily limit their playing time or self-exclude themselves from playing is on the rise according to Finnish news source YLE.fi
Pelimaailma launched six months ago and is owned by state operator, RAY, Finland’s Slot Machine Association and software provider.
According to the report approximately three percent of RAY’s customers have been suspended from online gambling for a variety of reasons but most prominently self exclusion.
The website offers various methods for players to limit themselves including the number of hours they can play online.
Kari Hyttinen, RAY, Internet Operations Director said the website has done exceptionally well and is financially successful despite the number of restrictions RAY has put into place to limit problem gambling.
RAY is reluctant to comment on the exact number of users with suspensions or who have voluntarily limited their own playing time but local newspaper Keskisuomalainen reported a suspension rate of 2500 players during the first half of 2011.
