Industry on the alert for RAWA-style ban attempt in congress lame duck session

News on 16 Nov 2016

With the 114th US Congress now entering its final weeks of activity, online gambling industry monitors are on the alert for any sly attempt to pass an online gambling banning bill amid reports that Senator Tom Cotton will try to attach his S.3376 proposal to a must-pass year-end spending bill.

S,3376 was introduced earlier this year by the junior Republican senator and is reportedly a mirror image of Sheldon Adelson’s repeatedly failed Restoration of America’s Wire Act, a piece of legislation that proposes federal bans on online gambling despite the fact that such a move tramples all over states’ rights to make their own decisions on gambling.

Cotton’s bill is co-sponsored by two of Adelson’s key Republican political allies, Sens. Lindsey Graham and Mike Lee.

The bill has already attracted civic action group criticism.
