Italy adds 34 new sites to online gambling blacklist

News on 13 Aug 2013

The Italian regulator AAMS has added another 34 websites to its online gambling black list, bringing the total of ISP-banned internet venues to a staggering 4,513.

Among the latest sites added sports betting operations are the most noticeable, with mirror websites for big names like Bwin, Betfair and Unibet included.

Italian internet service providers have until August 23 to block the latest additions to the list, which has now been running for about six years following moves to ensure that operators without AAMS licensing do not access the ring-fenced Italian online gambling market.

However, the banning strategy is difficult in effective implementation as unlicensed operators continue to devise new work-arounds on the blocks.
