Ladbrokes in trouble with ASA ….again

News on 10 Sep 2016

Ladbrokes marketers appear to have a problem in getting to grips with acceptable advertising requirements; barely a week after being rapped over the knuckles by the UK Advertising Standards Authority for its Iron Man email promo (see previous report) the online and land gambling giant found itself in trouble with the Authority again this week.

This time it is over a June microsite advert on a special offer for new players based on the England vs. Wales match at the World Cup. A punter complained that in taking the offer and placing a wager he was not told that part of the winnings would be paid as free bet tokens and not cash.

Ladbrokes acknowledged that the offer as advertised lacked clarity on the winnings issue, although it was full covered in the relevant Terms and Conditions, to which the promo linked.

However, the company was big enough to accept that the full detail should have been displayed upfront in the advert.

The company assured the ASA that it would amend any future promo advertising accordingly.
