Latest UK gambling industry statistics published

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has released its bi-annual industry statics for the period October 2015 to September 2016.

Headline findings identified by the UKGC include:

– GBP 13.8 billion total gross gambling yield (GGY) of the Great Britain gambling industry

– GBP 4.5 billion total GGY for the remote sector

– Remote sector accounts for 32 percent of the market.

– The gambling industry employs 106,678 people.

– Number of betting shops totals 8,788

– Gambling machines total 176,410

– Total of 583 bingo premises, 147 casinos and 1,729 licensed arcades.

– GBP 1.7 billion was contributed to good causes from the National Lottery

– GBP 231.8 million was contributed to good causes from large society lotteries.

Remote gambling is deemed the largest sector constituting 32 percent of the overall market and GBP 4.5 billion in GGY.

Within the remote sector, casino games have generated the highest turnover and GBP 2.4 billion in GGY, predominantly through slots games.

GGY for remote betting, including betting exchanges and pool betting, totals GBP 1.9 billion and is dominated by football and horses.
