Macau gambling revenues soar again

News on 1 Jul 2013

June 2013 has been another good month for Macau gambling companies, with the authorities advising that revenues climbed 21.1 percent year-on-year to reach 28.3 billion patacas ($3.54 billion).

The rise was better than expected by analysts, who predicted a range between 18 percent and 21 percent.

Reuters reports that the number of mass market visitors from mainland China continues to show solid growth, but cautions that with China’s economic growth widely expected to slow further in the current quarter as exporters struggle with weak global markets, the high end VIP segment – which accounts for 70 percent of gaming revenue – may face pressure.
