News of massive police actions across the island of Taiwan last week has surfaced in several local media reports, revealing that two major police operations involving thousands of police officers raided premises and made arrests of around 1,600 suspects.

The initial operation targeted organised crime activity and criminal gangs and involved almost 6,500 officers who raided 164 locations and detained 108 suspects, whilst the second, involving a further 5,900 officers, went after all forms of illegal gambling, including online gambling rings.

The anti-gambling sweep resulted in 1,440 arrests and, among other illegal gambling take-downs, the shuttering of two Asia-facing online gambling rings – the Tao Gin and Ju Zhou Entertainment organisations which operated a variety of websites, some of them licensed by First Cagayan in the Philippines..
