Malaysia online gambling crackdown continues

Malaysian police in Miri in the Sarawak province of Malaysia have reported three more raids on illegal online gambling premises and the arrest of 48 individuals.

Police officers from the Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism Division (D7) launched the raids on New Year’s Eve, the Borneo Post reports, seizing a total of 312 computers, 23 modems and RM11,367 from premises in Bandar Baru Permyjaya, Desa Pujut and Desa Indah during nighttime operations.

All the suspects -19 workers aged 14 to 42 and 29 customers aged between 20 and 39 – were remanded for four days pending the completion of investigations.

Miri police spokesman ACP Mun Kock Keong told a press conference that the operation was the biggest of 2013.

“We are committed to crippling such activities, and those errant people who intend to set up such businesses within commercial buildings or houses will face the music,” he said.
