Petition emerges against igaming in Singapore

News on 27 Sep 2016

Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club’s application to operate online betting has triggered the origination of a petition that calls on the Government to deny authorisation and stop legalisation of online gambling.

The petition, which has attracted 10,000 signatures in under two weeks, says these two companies have “audaciously” run final tests on their online betting platforms and have prepared advisories for staff and customers despite not yet receiving approvals.

The petition, targeted at the Singapore Ministry of Social and Family Development, cites the prevention of gambling addiction and its appeal to young people as reasons to deny the applications.
