Poker and eSports to combine in experimental tourney

Two popular forms of online competitive game-play will be combined in a new experimental project announced this week by Amazon Coins and Poker Central.

The two organisations have partnered on a project titled Worlds Collide which will see famous poker players take on eSports pro players to find out which is the hardest game in a cross-over Swiss tournament format – one where both the game Hearthstone and poker will be played in a non-elimination format.

Worlds Collide will be streamed on Twitch.tv from 2pm Pacific Time on May 24, with Team Poker comprising Maria Ho, Doug Polk and Twitch’s poker chief Scott Ball.

Facing them will be Team Amazon Coins, which will consist of eSports pros Jason Chan, Esteban Serrano and ‘HSdogdog’.

The publication Poker Strategy notes that a growing number of poker fans also play Hearthstone, which is popular as both a recreational game and in eSports competitions. Daniel Negreanu is reportedly a fan, and respected poker pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier has recently been sponsored for play in both poker and Hearthstone contests.
