Snooker match flagged for unusual betting patterns

News on 25 Jan 2012

Unidentified bookmakers have flagged a snooker match, due to take place at the Snooker Shoot Out in Blackpool on Saturday January 28 between Joe Jogia and Matthew Selt, for the unusually high placing of bets on Selt to win reported the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA).

The Association’s Integrity Unit has reportedly initiated an investigation into the matter with WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson saying: “Maintaining the integrity of snooker is essential to protect the sport. Working with our partners we will take all necessary steps to establish what has taken place and take appropriate action.”

Snooker and Darts are ever increasing in popularity with punters as recognised by bookmakers such as William Hill and Ladbrokes who provide key sponsorships in one or both of these sports disciplines.
