Spain to launch national sports integrity commission

News on 14 Feb 2019

Spain’s gambling authority La Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego launched a consultation earlier this week inviting the public to weigh-in on the proposed formation of a National sports integrity commission tasked with combating the manipulation of sports competitions and fraud in sports betting.

The public is invited to submit their observations by March 8, 2019.

The commission will act as a formalised channel of dialogue and cooperation between public authorities, sports organisations, organisers of sports competitions and representatives of the gaming industry with the purpose of preventing and eradicating corruption and manipulation of competitions and sports betting.

Under the Ministry of Finance, the National Commission will comprise representatives from the DGOJ, the General Directorate of Sports, the General Directorate of the Police, the Higher Sports Council, gaming industry and Spanish Sports Federations.
