Slots.com domain sold for $5.5 Million

News on 17 May 2010

After failing by a long chalk to reach its reserve price in a Snapnames auction, the desirable online gambling domain Slots.com was eventually sold for $5.5 million this week, thanks to some astute behind-the-scenes moves by auctioneer firm Monicker.
In value terms the purchase price is believed to be the largest reported domain name sale of 2010 and one of the top 10 most expensive reported domain sales of all time.
Following a failure to reach the reserve price by a good million dollars, Monicker stepped in and worked with both parties to secure an agreement.  The buyer has chosen to remain anonymous, and the domain is privacy-protected.
Registered in 2005, Slots.com is currently an information portal, and according to Compete.com the web site gets around 15 000 unique visitors a month.
