Chinese nationals arrested in Pattaya online gambling bust

Following a tip-off from the public Thai police swooped on a multi-storey commercial building in Pattaya this week, shuttering an illegal Chinese-facing online gambling operation and arresting 13 Chinese nationals allegedly running the enterprise.

The Bangkok Post reports that 15 computers, along with other evidence of criminal conduct was seized by police officers, and that the arrested individuals admitted their guilt.

The gang leader, identified only as Ming, said the illegal business had been in operation for the past 3 months, with millions of baht flowing through its bank accounts each month.

In related news, the Philippine National Bureau of Investigation reported the arrest of five South Korean nationals charged with operating an illegal online gambling operation.

GMA News reports that the five suspects were arrested on at a house in Valle Verde 3, Pasig City on the strength of a search warrant issued by the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 24.

Police carrying out the raid confiscated several computers and other evidence for examination by the the NBI Digital Forensic Laboratory (DFL). The examination subsequently showed that the five were running an online sports betting business.

The case is currently being prepared for court.
