Connecticut sports betting cases continue

Further defendants prosecuted in the 44wager.com sports betting case have been convicted in Stanford Connecticut.

A US District Judge sentenced John Liquori (43) to 18 months imprisonment followed by three years of court-ordered supervision for his role in conspiring to violate the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

Liquori had earlier entered a guilty plea, along with co-accused Dean DePreta (45). De Preta will be sentenced on August 28.

Eighteen other defendants have been charged in connection with the Costa Rica-based online sportsbetting enterprise, which targeted US players.

Investigators at the FBI who were involved in tracking and taking down the enterprise have estimated that total gross revenues of $1.7 million were generated between October 2010 and June 2011.
