Top online gambling information site founder killed

News on 27 Oct 2012

The Guelph Mercury newspaper in Ontario, Canada is reporting the death in an aircraft accident of a respected webmaster in the online sports betting sector.

Russ Hawkins (47) founded one of the pioneering online gambling information websites, Major Wager.com and was reportedly killed when a small Cessna 172 floatplane in which he was travelling crashed on take-off from Puslinch Lake near Cambridge, Ontario. His companion on the flight, who was not identified, survived without serious injury.

Hawkin’s colleagues at Major Wager subsequently confirmed his death.

The newspaper report suggests that the aircraft was practising “touch and go” landings and take-offs on the lake when it clipped a stand of trees and then tipped a power line before crashing into the woods nearby.
