Svenska Spel introduces mandatory customer cards

News on 12 Nov 2013

Swedish state-owned gaming firm Svenska Spel will make customer gaming cards mandatory from the middle of next year.

The gaming card not only allows for Svenska Spel to contact customers in the event of a win or provide opportunities for participation in special promotions but provides safeguards in combating underage gambling, problem gambling, crime and fraud while also giving customers a tool to keep track of their play.

“Our decision will be a major effort to strengthen consumer protection in the gambling market. We are convinced that the playing card requirement is an important part of more consistent and transparent gaming, and that it leads to the development of a sound and secure gaming market.

“Meanwhile, we must continue to develop a wide range of attractive gaming experiences , so that our customers do not seek out unregulated gambling sites,” said Svenska Spel’s Lennart Kall.

The issue of a game card is conditional on the player being at least 18-years-old and meeting certain criteria.
