Vietnam online sports betting ring bust

Vietnam News report Police in Hải Phòng City, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security’s high-tech crime unit, have bust an online football betting operation.

Six people have been detained so far including Đặng Mạnh Thành (38) who is suspected as the mastermind behind the operation. Thanh, and an accomplice, were reportedly caught in the act while taking and placing wagers on the 2017 European Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Juventus.

Authorities said over 1,000 accounts had been created on numerous unidentified sports betting websites with the operation estimated to have been worth VNĐ200 billion (US$8.8 million).

A car, 10 mobile phones, a computer, an iPad and VNĐ55 million ($2,400) in cash were also seized.
