Calls for more rules to develop eSports in China

With the eSports phenomenon gaining traction in China, a local games development executive has called for rules and a framework to ensure that continued development of a potentially massive market is orderly and lawful.

Perfect World Company chief executive Xiao Hong said in a media interview this week that whilst eSports in China is still in the early stages compared to the more mature markets in Europe and the United States, this is an opportune time to get interested parties together and bring about common rules and a framework for the benefit of all in a local market that has already overtaken that of Korea.

“The emergence of top-level products has driven the explosive growth of China’s eSports gaming industry in the past two to three years,” Xiao said, observing that a growing number of companies, investors, players and audiences are entering the relatively new eSports industry.
