Spanish gambling authority la Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has reiterated sections within gaming law that protect the integrity of sports.

The decree establishes that directors of sports entities, athletes, coaches or other direct participants, as well as judges and referees are banned for placing any bets relative to their sports discipline.

The prohibition affects all bets related to any event that takes place within the framework of the competitions in which that sporting entity participates where sports or professional services are provided.

The law is intended to proactively promote a high level of integrity and a low risk of fraud in the regulated sports betting market, the DGOJ said.

“Participation in gambling activities contravenes the prohibitions established in article 6, paragraph 2, letters c), d), e), f), g) and h) of Law 13/2011,” the DGOJ warns, any violation constitutes a minor offence punishable by a fine of up to Euro one hundred thousand.
