Poker playing businessman donates winnings to charity

News on 17 Aug 2016

Well-known Lithuanian businessman and poker player (and member of the European Parliament) Antanas “Tony G” Guoga showed extraordinary generosity this week in donating his Euro 109,000 winnings in the 2016 Celebrity Cash King’s Summer Edition tournament in Rozvadov to Lithuanian charities.

The money will be routed through Guoga’s own A. Guoga Foundation to Vilnius University and two of Lithuania’s top charity organizations: Bėdų Turgus and Maisto Bankas.

After an absence from the poker tables of two years, TonyG showed that he still has it in the poker skills department, and in the banter with which he winds other players up.

Playing in the high buy-in celebrity festival were pooker luminaries like Dusk Til Dawn’s Rob Yong, UK ace Sam Trickett, Roberto Romanello, Fedor Holz, Vojtech Ruzicka, Igor Kurganov, and King’s Casino owner and host for the occasion Leon Tsoukernik.

Commenting on his success and the donation, TonyG said:

“Last night, I sat down and played poker for the first time in a very long time and I was surprised to see that I am still qualified and the champion.

“I thought I would be a bit rusty but the juices flowed and I sent them on their bikes. I ended up winning over Euro 100,000 – my charity foundation is very happy.”
